Café Sofrito opened its doors on August 15th, 2022 and has recently commissioned artist Kill Joy from Houston to design and install a mural to mirror the food it serves. Live music, appetizers and libations will be available during the revealing of this much anticipated art that will catch the attention of all who drive down Main Street.
Kill Joy's work is grounded in honoring the earth and seeking environmental and social justice through both imaginative worlds and social movements. Her work is an interpretation of world mythology and a study of ancient symbols. She integrates story telling with calls to spiritual and political awareness and action. Her work sits at the intersection where jungle meets desert. https://joyland.space/about.
Sofrito is a Caribbean term for a mix of herb with onions, garlic and sweet pepper and is often used in a juicy pork sandwich with fried potato thins and mayonnaise, and served on special holidays. Café Sofrito boasts dishes like beef or chicken arepas, fried plantains, tasty salads and much more. Open 11am to 3pm then 5pm to 8pm, Monday through Friday it’s a must have lunch location. Much like the new mural being unveiled on November 15 at 4pm, the food is as vibrant and playful as the art from its origin of Caribbean and South America.
